RIP: Norman Corwin

Norman Corwin
Norman Corwin, dead at 101.
It's a sad day, indeed, to note the passing of Norman Corwin, godfather and poet laureate of American radio. Read his New York Times obituary here.

I had the honor of speaking with Mr. Corwin a few times by telephone in the middle part of the last decade. I was particularly honored to congratulate him on the 65th anniversary of We Hold These Truths.

Producer Katy Sewall at KUOW in Seattle last year put together a terrific interview with Mr. Corwin that can be listened to online here.

Mr. Corwin published a number of collections of his scripts back in the 1940s. While the scripts are interesting to read (not as interesting as hearing the recordings, in my mind), more compelling are Mr. Corwin's candid notes and observations on each production.

He will be missed, but his legend--and his productions--will live on!
